Rafiq Anammah is a Senior Associate in the Dispute Resolution, Arbitration, and Transportation Practice Groups at AELEX. Rafiq represents clients at various levels of the Nigerian superior courts. He also regularly advises clients on Oil and Gas Laws and Regulations, Real Estate, and Criminal Liability matters.
He is a member of the team currently representing a major international oil company (IOC) in Nigeria in an action filed against it by one of the communities in the Niger Delta for surface right compensation and another dispute in respect of the attempted seizure of one of the IOC’s oil blocks by one of the state governments.
He is part of a team representing a major international engine manufacturing company and a world-renowned energy company in both litigation and non-litigation related matters. He is, also, a member of the team representing one of the major telecommunication companies in Nigeria in several cases before the Nigerian courts.
Rafiq has been involved in several vessel arrest proceedings for the enforcement of maritime claims. He was a member of the team that represented the Plaintiff in a multi-million Great British Pounds transnational maritime claim in which the arrest of the Defendant ship is was keenly contested before the Nigerian Courts.
Rafiq regularly advises international and local clients on aircraft financing and aviation laws and regulations in Nigeria. Rafiq has been recognized in 2021, 2022, and 2024 by Legal500 as a “Rising Star” in the Transportation and Shipping Industry in Nigeria. In his further recognition in the industry, he was appointed Chairman of the NBA-SBL Aviation Committee in 2024. She was part of the team that recently reviewed and advised a major airline on the implication of its proposed dollarization policy on air ticketing and proffered recommendations in view of the anti-competition laws in Nigeria. She is part of the team that represented a maritime satellite communication company in an action for the arrest of a vessel for the breach of a satellite lease equipment agreement. She is also part of the team involved in the review of select maritime legislations in the industry, such as the Suppression of Piracy and Other Maritime Offences Act (SPOMO) Act and the Cabotage Act.
As part of the dispute resolution practice, Linda is an excellent courtroom advocate with keen attention to detail and has successfully obtained judgments from the magistrates courts, High Courts, and appellate courts. She is part of the team that challenged an action brought at the High Court in disregard of a foreign jurisdiction clause and canvassed the position that the court should refer the action to the foreign forum stated in the contract as a foreign jurisdiction clause in a contract is legally enforceable and is not an ouster clause and recently obtained judgments from both the High Court and the Court of Appeal affirming the principle of law that a foreign jurisdiction clause is enforceable and not an ouster clause.
Linda’s labour and employment advisories have involved unique legal issues around moonlighting, union activities, retrenchment, on-call compensation requirements, etc. She represents clients at the National Industrial Court of Nigeria on issues of labour and employment bothering on dismissal, withheld remittances, unfair labour practices, termination of employment, amongst others.
