In a bid to prevent further costly shutdown of operations, the Federal Government has begun moves to construct a second runway at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja.

The government has set aside N10 billion in the 2017 budget for the project.

The administration apparently learning from the pains the nation’s flyers passed through with the closure of the airport for rehabilitating the airport between March and April this year, has also set aside the sum of N2 billion to acquire vital airport equipment and a calibration aircraft for the industry.  Read more

Medview Airlines to commence flights into Washington soon —COO. Tribune Online

Better days with alternative choices for passengers on Nigeria and the United States are in the offing as another Nigerian carrier, Medview Airlines has started putting measures on ground to commence flight operations between Lagos and Washington.

The Chief Operating Officer of the airline, Alhaji Muneer Bankole in a chat with Tribune Aviation in Lagos, said the airline’s seeming silence about preparations to commence flights to the U.S. Was based on the airline’s policy of taking one step at a time for subsequent success.

According to him, while the airline is to commence flights between Lagos and Dubai in July, the next place to be explored is the Francophone speaking African countries just as the operations to America is expected to come up next.  Read more

‘AMCON lacks good knowledge of Nigeria’s aviation history’. Tribune Online

The Managing Director of Centurion Security, Group, Captain John Ojikutu (retired) has faulted an alleged plan by the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) to liquidate Arik Airline and sell it to Ethiopian Airlines.

Ojikutu premised his position on what he referred to as AMCON’s little or no knowledge about Nigeria’s aviation sector.

Going down the memory lane to back his opposition for the sale of Arik to Ethiopian Airlines, Ojikutu cited past cooperation Nigeria had with some foreign airlines which did not yield good fruits at the end.  Read more
