The National Information Technology and Development Agency (‘NITDA’) is charged with the governance and monitoring of electronic data interchange and other forms of electronic communication transactions. In early 2019, the NITDA issued the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation (‘NDPR’) to guarantee data protection and privacy.
Data controllers that process the personal data of more than 2000 data subjects in a period of 12 months are to engage a Data Protection Compliance Organisation (‘DPCO’) and submit their audit report to NITDA not later than 15 March of the following year. For more information on DPCOs and their responsibilities, please read our article here
In view of the current pandemic situation, the 2020 annual audit report which was due for filing on 15 March 2020 has now been extended to June 30, 2020
Organisations can therefore take advantage of the opportunity to fulfil their compliance obligations. AELEX is a duly licensed DPCO and is enabled by NITDA to carry out audits and submit reports on behalf of their clients.
