Every year, on the 8th of March, women all around the world take time out to reflect and celebrate the social, political, cultural, and economic achievements of the female folk. This year, 2023 is no different and the women of AELEX are not left out. In line with the global theme for International Women’s Day (IWD) 2023 – “Embracing Equity”, AELEX had her Annual IWD celebration centred around the topic, “Why Equality is not always Equal”. The event was held at the firm’s Lagos head office.
The third of its kind, the AELEX annual IWD celebration is fast becoming an integral part of the firm’s culture. This year’s event brought together women across all levels of the firm including the partners of the firm, as well as a few female guests from various industries. Chinwe Odigboegwu, FCIArb was the guest speaker at the AELEX IWD celebration. Among others, she chaired an interactive and insightful session on mindfulness and demystified the concepts of equity and equality using relatable examples.
The event also featured a riveting debate on “Equal Work means Equal Pay” by female associates of the firm. The discourse highlighted practical challenges some of the women of the firm raised exciting points for both sides of the argument.
The event rounded off with an exclusive session for the ladies, where candid conversations were had about navigating the challenges that are specific to career women. It was a fun moment for the women of AELEX as it presented the opportunity to build connections and foster the bond of sisterhood.
